Certified Data-Bearing Device Process

Laptop Data Destruction with Verification

Laptop processing is performed under R2v3-aligned practices with documented intake, verification, sanitization, and reporting.

Designed for education, finance, legal, healthcare, and enterprise refresh cycles where traceability and audit evidence are required.

Covered Device Types

  • Business laptops
  • School-issued laptops
  • Executive endpoints

Verified Process Flow

  1. Laptops are received, counted, and reconciled against transfer records.
  2. Each unit is verified and assessed for lock status and hardware condition.
  3. Recoverable devices are unlocked when required and then wiped to policy.
  4. Non-sanitizable devices are classified as scrap and physically destroyed.
  5. Disposition outcomes are reported with supporting records.

Why Locked Devices Still Create Risk

  • Lock screens do not equal data security.
  • Unverified downstream handling creates legal and reputational exposure.
  • Trust-based disposal is not equivalent to evidence-based destruction.

Required Outcome

If a laptop cannot be unlocked and wiped, it is scrap and must be destroyed under certified controls.
